The governing body for the telecommunications industry, Smart Awards offers the Network Operative Passport Scheme (NOPS), a card scheme which provides the knowledge and skills engineers need to work on the Openreach Overhead and Underground Infrastructure.
We offer a range of Smart Awards training courses, which ensure candidates are fully compliant with industry requirements. The courses both enable access to the Openreach network and teach valuable skills for working in the telecoms, civils, and utilities industries.

How much do the courses cost?
Our Smart Awards training courses are priced individually, with costs varying from £75 to £750. We may be able to offer discounts on group bookings – get in touch to find out more.
Can courses be delivered on-site?
While some of our Smart Awards training courses are available for on-site delivery, not all are, so ask our team at the time of booking if you’re unsure.
When do the courses run?
We run each of our Smart Awards training courses at least once a month, with regular refresher courses also available. Visit the ATS Group website to see course dates.
How long do the courses last?
The training courses can last from 1-4 days. You can find the duration in the details for each individual course.
Do I need any prior qualifications?
Although most Smart Awards training courses have no formal entry requirements and are available to anyone over the age of 16, there may be some restrictions on age for specific courses. In addition, where assessments are required, learners are expected to have an adequate level of literacy to complete them, and more advanced courses may require prior NRSWA qualifications.
How long is the qualification valid for?
A Smart Awards certificate, awarded upon successful completion of your course, is valid for 3 years. After that, you will need to retake the qualification or attend a refresher course.
